OK...First things first...The Hawks LOST...We predicted it...MOVE ON!  We still had a GREAT time at some of the best places to stay and eat in the Twin Cities!  We left Iowa City on Friday morning, and by the time our stomachs were growling we were in Mason we stopped at Pro's Sandwich Shop-It's certainly a blast from the past.
From the menu on the wall, to the 45 rpm records used as a border around the ceiling, this place is a classic!  Both the tenderloin and the loose meat sandwich were good, and the fries were crispy.  So what more could you ask for in an old-time diner in rural Iowa!?!
From Mason City, we drove on to Minneapolis, and we checked in to the Marquette Hotel (A Hilton affiliate) about 2:00 p. m.  We like this hotel, and we've stayed there many times, but be sure to watch for hidden wireless Internet access!  We didn't take our laptop on this weekend trip, but it looked like we would have spent $150 to keep our laptop connected all day like I do at home!  The Marquette is a great downtown location connected to the skywalk and the mall.  The beds and bedding are luxurious and comfy, and it's only a short walk to several great eating spots.   Just be aware that parts of the skywalk close fairly early on the weekends, so you will find yourself bundled up against the elements to get around that part of the city.  But a brisk walk only makes the food and drinks taste better when you do arrive!
For drinks and appetizers you can't go wrong at Dan Kelly's!  No matter who is behind the bar (Peter, Kevin or Larry) you'll be treated with warm Irish humor and warmth!!  We LOVE that spot!  Their burger had some of the BEST seasoning I've ever tasted,
and it's served on an awesome onion roll.  Delish!
We also ordered their famous WINGS...

The seasoning was awesome, and the wings are baked before they're deep-fried, so they are COMPLETELY COOKED!   (That's one of my BIGGEST pet-peeves ...Undercooked wings!  These were big...but cooked through...An amazing combination!  You MUST stop in for their food and drinks, and to soak up the Irish's a SURE THING in downtown Minneapolis.

A Great breakfast spot is Peter's Grill!  This is our favorite (although a little pricey) spot for breakfast.  The decor is warm and a little art deco, and to think this place has been in operation for 93 years is simply AMAZING.  (Take time to check out all the old photos and memorabilia on the walls.)

My Denver omelet was delicious, and the Pumpernickel toast was a great treat! And one of the BEST things about the restaurant...there are NO TV's in the place!!  Just soft music and "Rat Pack" Charm.

All in all we had a WONDERFUL long as you forget about the Iowa-Minnesota Football Game...And like I've said many times, the memories last longer than the calories and the football scores--or so I wish!!!
